Cannabidiol, or CBD, is a compound derived from the cannabis plant and has been shown to have significant medical benefits. CBD is used for relief from inflammation, pain, anxiety, seizures, muscle spasms, sleep disorders, lethargy and more. While CBD is derived from the cannabis plant, it is non-psychoactive compared to THC which has psychoactive properties.
CBD can be found in bother the marijuana plant and the hemp plant. In the marijuana plant it is present with THC as well as many other cannabinoids. However, CBD can also be extracted from the hemp plant as pure CBD with no THC present.
There have been many scientific and clinical research studies which show CBD’s potential for treatment for a wide range of conditions, such as arthiritis, diabetes, alcoholism, MS, chronic pain, schizophrenia, PTSD, depression, antibiotic-resistent infections, epilepsy and other neurological conditions. CBD has neuroprotective and neurogenic effects, and its anti-cancer properties are being researched at several academic research centers.
